Michael Fassbender wife: Meet the Swedish BOMBSHELL who married X-Men star

Michael Fassbender is reprising his role as Magneto in the new X-Men film Dark Phoenix alongside James McAvoy and Sophie Turner. The film will be released in the UK on Friday, June 5 and tells of how Jean Grey aka Dark Phoenix – played Sophie Turner – was tempted to evil by a manipulative antagonist, played by Jessica Chastain. Michael will be joined by James, Sophie and Jessica on Graham Norton tonight as they discuss the new film.

Who is Michael Fassbender’s wife, Alicia Vikander?

Michael and actress Alicia began dating in 2014 after meeting on the film set of The Light Between Oceans (2016), which was filmed in Australia and New Zealand.

They wed in 2017 after three years together, at a private ceremony in Ibiza, Spain.

Alicia is from Sweden, born in Gothenburg and began acting as a child, starring in minor stage productions at the Gothenburg opera house.

She also took ballet classes at the Royal Swedish Ballet School in Stockholm.

She said of her decision to quit dancing: “I think I knew deep down that I wouldn’t be able to dance until [I was] thirty-something.

“I still have a really bad back … but it wasn’t just that. First of all, I don’t think I wanted to live my life as a dancer.

“It’s hard, and I realised I really loved to dance and be on stage, but it’s also three, four hours of training every day to do that, to be on that level.

“I could sometimes be a bit sad, and I was quite hard on myself and jealous emotionally of some of the girls who I saw just loved it.”

Alicia, 30, began her acting career in Sweden, starring in short films and television series.

She received global recognition for her roles as activist Vera Brittain in Testament of Youth (2014) and a humanoid robot in Ex Machina (2014) for which she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award and BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress.

For her role as painter Gerda Wegener in The Danish Girl (2015), Alicia received the Academy Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Most recently, Alicia has starred in Tomb Raider, as action heroine Lara Croft which was released in 2018.

She also starred in a Red Nose Day special, which was a 2019 sequel to 1994 film Four Weddings and A Funeral by renowned film writer Richard Curtis.

In the short film which was released in March, Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell and Rowen Atkinson reprised their much-loved roles and viewers saw Charles (Hugh) and Carrie’s (Andie) daughter – played by Lily James – marry her fiancé, who was played by Alicia.

Richard wrote in the Radio Times and said of the sequel: “It is actually meant to be a continuation of the film – not just a sketch – and on a couple of occasions there was genuine emotion and passion and even romance in the room.

“There’s a moment in the middle that our two movie-star guest leads tell each other they love each other when I can’t deny, there were some tears and some wiping away of them.

“And why do we do it? Well, I guess it is all about weddings and funerals, too. For kids to grow up to be happy adults who can marry people they love.”

She has several upcoming projects, including TV series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (2019), and films Earthquake Bird (2019), Green Night (2020), Born to be Murdered (2020) and The Glorias: A Life on the Road (release unknown).
