Memorial Day honours the men and women who have fallen while serving in the United States military. A federal holiday since 1971, the commemoration day is observed on the last Monday of May. Millions of Americans will have the day off work while banks, federal offices and schools will also be shut. Large retail stores, including Walmart, will remain open but operating hours may be reduced.
