U.S. expected to send 1,500 more troops to Middle East: sources

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States is expected to send an additional 1,500 troops to the Middle East amid heightened tensions with Iran, two sources said on Friday, adding that the forces would help strengthen American defenses in the region.

One of the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the forces included engineers.

The Pentagon declined to comment.
