Sophie Turner: ‘I would start crying’ Game of Thrones’ Sansa Stark ‘exhausted’ on set

Sophie Turner’s character, Sansa Stark, ended up being crowned Queen of the North in the final ever Game of Thrones episode after she demanded they have independence when her brother, Bran Stark, (played by Isaac Hempstead-Wright) was selected to be King of the Six Kingdoms.

The 23-year-old revealed the scene where her brother became Bran the Broken, which they filmed in Spain, was the last moment she and her cast mates shot.

And Sophie said she was “exhausted” at the point as they didn’t know how many days they still had left to film.

Speaking about the last scene she filmed, she told The New York Times: “It was actually that scene where we choose Bran to be king.

“That was five days in Seville, and by the end of it we were just exhausted.”

She continued: “And we were wondering when we were going to wrap, because we didn’t know if it was going to be three days or 10 days or however long.”

Sophie, who married Joe Jonas earlier this month, said she kept “crying” on set.

“So every time they cut, I would just start crying because I thought it was the end, and then I’d have to bottle it up again and shoot another take, and another take and another take,” she said.

Despite the tiring filming schedules, Sophie said she was a fan of Sansa’s ending, with her being back in Winterfell.

“I loved it,” she spilled. “It’s the only place that she really, truly feels safe. It’s the place that she’s the most capable of ruling.

“She would be a fair and loving ruler, and it’s what she’s been striving for this whole series: to go back home, to protect her home. And finally she has that.”

Following the ending of Game of Thrones, many viewers have been complaining about the final season and now a petition to remake season eight with “competent writers” has more than 1.5 million signatures.

But Sophie slammed the petition as “disrespectful” to those who worked “tirelessly” on the show.

“All of these petitions and things like that – I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season,” she told the New York Time.

“Like 50-something night shoots. So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.”

Sophie said she believes people are demanding the ending to be changed as it hasn’t gone “their way”.

“The thing about Game of Thrones that’s always been amazing is the fact that there’s always been crazy twists and turns, right from season one with Ned’s beheading,” she said.

“So Daenerys becoming something of the Mad Queen – it shouldn’t be such a negative thing for fans.”

Sophie added: “It’s a shock for sure, but I think it’s just because it hasn’t gone their way.”

Game of Thrones episode six, season eight is available to catch up on Sky Atlantic and Now TV.
