Gogglebox cast: ‘How the f**k?’ Lee Riley addresses royal baby moment which sparked frenzy

Earlier this month, Gogglebox stars Lee Riley and Jenny Newby tuned into the moment the news broke about the birth of Prince Harry, 34, and Meghan Markle’s first born. After hearing the news, Jenny shed a tear and her and Lee soon got onto the subject of what they think the newest royal baby should be called. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced the birth of their on May 6 and revealed their son’s name Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor two days later, ahead of the Gogglebox episode being aired. Later that week, Jenny’s accurate name prediction was aired, sending viewers into a frenzy on Twitter.

One user wrote: “Omg Jenny should have had a bet on that. Love that she’s emotional, me too! #Gogglebox.”(sic)

“Has Jenny got inside info?!! #archie #gogglebox,” a second queried.

A third wrote: “How the hell did she know the Royal baby name? #Gogglebox.”

After much speculation on Twitter, show creator Tania Alexander tweeted: “I would just like to confirm that our Jenny did genuinely guess the name Archie before it was announced @leegogglebox #gogglebox #geniusjenny.”

Lee later responded to her tweet, insisting he was also shocked when Jenny guessed the name.

In view of their 84,000 followers, he wrote: “Yes @Tanialalexander she did when she rang me screaming down the phone that she said Archie how the f**k.”

Elsewhere, Lee and Jenny recently issued a warning to their Twitter followers about fake news regarding the show.

Publications reported the show were holding auditions to recruit new families for the show.

But, a tweet from Gogglebox’s official Twitter page slammed the reports in view of their 263,000 followers.

They said various publications “are posting that we are looking for applicants for #gogglebox This is untrue.

“We have never carried out an application process for the show and have predominantly only ever street cast.

“We hugely apologise for any inconvenience #fakenews”.

Lee and Jenny shared the post on their Twitter page commenting: “Please be aware folks [shocked face emojis] it’s fake news, fake news.”

Their response seemingly left many fans gutted, as some joked they had applied for a spot on the show.

One user commented: “Just ‘applied’ as well gutted!”

A second wrote: “Shame we would love to be on it.”

Gogglebox continues tonight on Channel 4 at 9pm.
