Avengers Endgame: 'Fat Thor' secret revealed – Chris Hemsworth had THIS help

The Marvel movie began with the surviving Avengers tracking down Thanos – to find out he had destroyed the Infinity Stones. Thor beheaded him, before a five-year time jump found all of the key characters in significantly different places. For the God of Thunder, he had been struggling with depression and subsequently became something of a recluse, and had put on weight.

It’s already been revealed by directors the Russo brothers that Hemsworth could not put the weight on himself, because of concurrent reshoots for Avengers: Infinity War.

But now the VFX team have revealed that, while the star did wear a fatsuit, he had some help from them to complete the look.

“That was a great prosthetic,” Russell Earl told ComicBook.com

“He was wearing a prosthetic that I believe Legacy did for his suit.

“There was a big scene down the back that we cleaned up, and then we just cleaned it up in places where it didn’t quite bend right at the elbows and shoulders.

“Under the arms, yeah. I think we ended up adding a little bit of hair here and there.

“I know, it was a great prosthetic, it just required some cleaning up.

“I think we added some jiggle in a couple of spots too.”

Endgame was initially thought to be Hemsworth’s Marvel swansong, but he recently revealed that he would be open to returning.

Indeed, the end of the film appeared to indicate that he could join the Guardians of the Galaxy in their upcoming threequel.

Hemsworth told Ellen: “This is Marvel’s phase three wrapping up a culmination of all this journey.

“Whether they go off and shoot other things or do prequels or sequels or whatever they can do… Loki, my brother’s come back nine times, three times he dies, so who knows whats in store for anyone?!”

He added: “Me personally, it’s the best fun I’ve ever had.

“I’d be happy to do more if they wanted me. More than happy.”

Currently no MCU films have been officially announced beyond Spider-Man: Far From Home, out in July.

The likes of Guardians 3, Black Widow and Shang-Chi, however, are all known to be in the works behind the scenes.

Avengers: Endgame is out now.
