Roger Federer WILL play 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games on one condition

The Olympic gold medal is one of the only prizes in tennis which has continued to elude Federer.

In 2012, the Swiss star lost to home favourite Andy Murray in the final.

The switch of sponsor from Nike to Uniqlo last year indicated Federer would compete in Tokyo while donning the Japanese apparel.

And he has admitted he will prolong his career until next summer.

“It seems to me still far away,” Federer told TV Magazine.

“But if I’m healthy, I always want to play and Tokyo becomes a big goal, then we’ll see.”

Furthermore, Federer is unsure when he will call time on his career.

He has recently claimed he does not want a “fairytale” ending – which winning the Olympic gold would bring.

At 37 years old, Federer is continuing to defy Father Time by continuously competing at the highest level.

And he draws inspiration from Andre Agassi, who retired at 36.

“The love of the game [is why I keep playing], necessarily, but also the fact of having made the decision to play a long time ago,” Federer added.

“Andre Agassi, who had a huge career after thirty years, inspired me.

“I also wanted to be able to play against one or two more generations and I take a lot of fun to see these young people who go up and play a different game.”

Federer has won more major titles (20) than any male professional in the Open Era.

He is also closing down on Jimmy Connors’ all-time ATP record of 109 titles. of which his is just eight behind.
