Great British Bake Off star reveals what show’s aftercare is REALLY like

Earlier this month, Jeremy Kyle show guest Steve Dymond was found dead at his flat aged 63, days after failing a lie detector test on the show. Within the past year, Love Island contestants Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis have taken their own lives following their appearance on the reality show. Briony Williams, 33, who made it through to the semi-final of the Great British Bake Off last year, referred to the deaths as “scary” and praised Channel 4 production company Love Productions for their continuous support and aftercare. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Briony said: “With things that have happened with Love Island, it’s really scary, but Love Productions at Channel 4… I have felt really looked after by them.”

Despite the last series ending in October, the baker said she would still feel comfortable contacting the show for help if she needed it.

She added: “I still know now that if I need anything, I can go to them. It’s not an issue, I would definitely say they’ve got it right.”

Speaking of her time during the show, she continued: “They really do look after you and your wellbeing and make sure you are doing okay and not feeling the pressure too much.”

Briony admitted her time on the show was a “stressful” process, but insisted the cast were a “happy family”.

The semi-finalist added she “wasn’t surprised” she didn’t make it to the final, won by Rahul Mandal, 32, admitting she wasn’t prepared enough.

Briony added: “The only regret I have is I wished I practised more for the semi-final to get that last push for the final.

“I had nothing left to give at that point,” she added.

Elsewhere, Briony will be showcasing her baking skills at CarFest North on Saturday 27 July at Bolesworth Estate.

CarFest South will also be held at Laverstoke Park Farm in Hampshire from 23 to 25 August.

Speaking of her upcoming appearance at the family festival, she said: “I’m really looking forward to it.”

“I’ve done a few demos now, I just really enjoy it it’s great fun,” she added. “Especially having a teaching background that helps.”

“Being on Bake Off gives you a little bit more confidence.”

Briony also kindly baked festival founder and radio host Chris Evans, 53, a cake for World Baking Day, but is yet to hear his thoughts.

The baker added she is hoping to encourage him to participate on the celebrity version of Bake Off.

“I will give it a try and have a chat with him at CarFest,” she added.
