Google Chrome rival as Microsoft announces major new release available NOW

Chrome and Safari continue to be some of the most popular ways for Apple iMac and MacBook users to access the web.

In fact, with 65 per cent share, Google’s Chrome eclipses every other application for getting online.

Now it seems Microsoft wants to increase its popularity by launching its latest Edge browser on Apple’s hardware.

Last year, the US technology giant announced that it was planning to launch a version of its web browser on the Mac and now it seems Microsoft is ready to begin testing things out.

In an update on its website, Microsoft has now confirmed that a preview build of Edge is available to download and try for Apple fans.

Along with the new software appearing on the screen, Microsoft is also working on Mac shortcuts, Touch Bar and trackpad support which may all launch in the coming months.

If you fancy giving it a try you can you find out more on Microsoft Edge Insider website.

The news of this update comes as Microsoft looks set to reveal its big Windows 10 update in the coming days.

The May upgrade will bring a swathe of new features to this popular operating system including changes to the Start Menu, improvements to the Cortana assistant and something called Sandbox.

Sandbox is a piece of software that is designed to run suspicious applications in an isolated environment.

Although there’s still no official release date for the May upgrade a recent report suggests a launch could be coming soon.

As noted by Neowin, Microsoft pushed out a build over the weekend to its Windows Insiders in the Slow and Release Preview rings.

This release is highly unusual as the US technology firm hardy ever updates its software over a weekend.

There were also just two fixes as part of the upgrade which could suggest that things are getting very close to a final release.

Microsoft has confirmed that this refreshed operating system will be called Windows 10 May 2019 Update and there’s clearly not long left until the end of the month.

All signs, therefore, point to a something coming very soon with Neowin speculating that general availability may come this week.
