Emmerdale spoilers: David Metcalfe’s secret plan to take down Maya Stepney exposed?

Tonight, Emmerdale came to a climax as Maya Stepney (played by Louisa Clein) was finally arrested and dragged away in handcuffs after grooming Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) for the past six months.

But it seems there is very little evidence to pin the teacher down for her crimes, unless David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) takes matters into his own hands.

In a manipulative twist no viewer expected, Maya seamlessly turned on the charm and managed to convince the police officers investigating the claims, she was the innocent one.

“Why aren’t you listening to me? I am the victim here!” she exclaimed before referring to the events of the Big Night Out. “They [Leyla, Tracy and Priya] bundled me into a car, they took me to some remote woods.”

Wade) on suspicion of assault and kidnap.

It was when his mother was arrested, Jacob interrupted and defended Maya: “They’re not lies are they? She’s the liar not Maya. Her Priya and Tracy threw Maya into the car, then attacked her and left her for dead!”

For David, who was hoping it would have been a simple process to charge Maya with grooming his son, Jacob constantly defending her is proving unhelpful.

It therefore seems he is going to need to find further evidence to prove Maya manipulated Jacob into a relationship and might need the help of the entire village.

Could he decide to root through Jacob’s bedroom to see if he can find anything to help the investigation?

Earlier in the week he convinced Ryan Stocks (James Moore) into installing spy software on Jacob’s laptop.

There is a good chance David has CCTV cameras in his shop, could this provide the crucial evidence they need?

In an alternative scene, Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele) explained to Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) her involvement in blackmailing Maya.

After breaking down and crying over her behaviour, she decided she owed it to Jacob to go to the police and tell the truth.

Could this help take Maya down for good?

Elsewhere in the episode, Jacob is still in denial about what has happened to him.

“You’re [the police] wasting time,” he spat. “They made it all up! Maya’s done nothing wrong, nothing happened between us.”

How long will it be before he realises the seriousness of his situation and will David or Liv be able to make him understand?

Meanwhile, viewers saw Lisa Dingle (Jane Cox) make plans for her upcoming wedding to Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell) after she was diagnosed with a terminal illness.

The pair are set to tie the knot in upcoming episodes, but the big day is not going to go as smoothly as they planned.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV.
