Sky TV update, new features and latest price cuts to reduce your bill revealed

Sky TV customers continue to see more features arrive on the popular service with Sky revealing some big news this week.

The updates include changes to its broadband service and the confirmation that the quality of its NOW TV streaming service is about to improve.

The satellite TV firm has also recently revealed some new price cuts which can help reduce the cost of your bill.

So, if you are a Sky subscriber or are thinking of making the switch, here’s all you need to know about the latest changes.

SKY BROADBAND

There’s a nice upgrade for anyone who uses Sky’s broadband with the firm revealing two big changes.

Perhaps the most important addition is for anyone who has children in the home with Sky revealing its new Broadband Buddy app.

This update allows parents to take full control of what’s being viewed online with a swathe of settings aimed at keeping kids safe and reducing screen time.

The app allows certain devices to only access the web at particular times and it can even block specific applications, such as Instagram or YouTube, from being used.

With a simple tap on the screen, the broadband can also be paused and parents can also see how the devices are being used, as well as being able to review usage history.

Along with this Buddy application, Sky is also trying to improve the connection customers receive by constantly monitoring line speeds and faults through daily tests.

If things go wrong a text will instantly be sent to your phone to explain what’s happening with complimentary engineer visits, including evenings and weekends, then organised.

For customers that also have Sky Mobile, there’s an additional insurance benefit if your line falters as you’ll instantly be given an extra 2GB of data in your Sky Mobile Piggybank.

SKY’S NOW TV

Sky’s NOW TV service has become hugely popular in recent years and it’s not hard to see why.

With customers simply streaming TV into their homes there’s no need for a dish or long-term and expensive contracts.

In fact, sports and movie fans can simply sign up for a short time and cancel whenever they want.

There’s plenty to like about NOW TV but there is one issue as there’s no way to watch content in full 1080p HD quality.

However, that appears to be about to change with Sky confirming that it is working on an update which will bring this improvement to customers.

Speaking to Pocket-lint a Sky spokeswoman confirmed that they have begun testing streams in higher quality.

“Later this year we will be introducing the option of streaming Now TV both live and on demand in Full HD, with content from the likes of Sky Atlantic, Sky One and Sky Sports,” she said.

“Like any new functionality, we always conduct trials before releasing new products or features to all our customers.”

It’s currently unclear when this update will officially arrive on NOW TV or if it will cost any extra to subscribe but it certainly seems that Sky is getting ready to bring this improvement to this hugely popular service.

LATEST DISCOUNTS

As well as offering customers some big new features there’s also some nice discounts available right now.

From now until June 9, NOW TV is giving customers the chance to get a Sky Sports pass for just £25 per month.

That price is a saving of over 25 per cent off the usual cost and is available for four months at that lower price.

There’s also the option to get Sky Sports Cricket for just £10 per month instead of £18 and the same deal is available on Sky F1.
