Game of Thrones season 8, episode 6: Iron Throne’s victor unveiled in finale twist?

Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) used her last remaining dragon, Drogon, to take on her enemies and also killed many innocents in King’s Landing.

Just like her father before her, Daenerys appears to have gone mad, indicating she may not come to the power in the way she has been after for years.

But with just one episode of Game of Thrones left, who, if anyone, could claim the Iron Throne?

The majority of fans are backing Jon Snow (Kit Harington) to take the Iron Throne in the finale of the HBO programme as revealed in a poll conducted by Express.co.uk.

Jon has a direct claim to the Throne through his true parentage of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, with his real name being Aegon Targaryen.

Jon was previously known as King in the North, but could he become ruler of the whole of Westeros?

While Jon has always seemed reluctant to lead, he has done so out of a sense of duty.

So that same driving force toward duty could push him to take the throne for the good of the people – but he has got several potential contenders.

Although perhaps an unlikely monarch would be Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), she did receive the second highest amount of votes with 22 per cent.

The Starks definitely appear to be the front-runners for viewers as eight per cent believe Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) could claim the throne.

It would certainly be a change in course for the Three-Eyed Raven who has expressed no interest in power before.

Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) also followed the trend as she got seven percent of the vote.

The Starks have never been thirsty for power, so perhaps it could mean one of them would make the ideal ruler.

Meanwhile, six percent think Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) could end up sitting on the Iron Throne in the final episode.

Daenerys’ descent into mad destruction could prove to cement her place as a ruling tyrant, although just three percent think she’s destined rule.

Just one percent think Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) could prove victorious and no one is backing Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie).

However, with the huge amount of conflict and destruction in the penultimate episode, it may very well be that there will be nothing left to rule in the end.

A staggering 23 percent of people believe no one will end up sitting on the coveted seat.

This could be due to a mass-wipeout in Westeros during the finale, there simply may be nothing left to rule.

Or on the other hand, it may be that the idea of monarchy is outlawed completely and the place becomes a republic after survivors realise all the destruction the fight for power has caused.

But viewers will have to wait and see what unfolds in the finale and if anyone makes it out alive.

Game of Thrones continues Sunday on HBO in the USA and the following day on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK.
