Game of Thrones: 'It's absurd' Star hits out as he justifies big Daenerys Targaryen move

At the time of writing, a Change.org petition calling for Game of Thrones season 8 to be remade with different writers has received over 900,000 signatures from angry fans who feel they’ve been let down by the final season of the hit fantasy drama. Isaac Hempstead Wright, 20, responded to the news of fans’ frustration by branding the petition “ridiculous”. “It’s just absurd,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I can’t even fathom it.

“It’s ridiculous that people think they can just demand a different ending because they don’t like it,” he continued.

“I have stupidly taken it quite personally, which obviously I shouldn’t.

“In my opinion, it’s a great ending,” he insisted.

The Game of Thrones star went on to address fans’ disappointment with Daenerys Targaryen’s (played by Emilia Clarke) Mad Queen storyline, as it appears she is on a downward spiral into power hunger.

“People have complained there wasn’t enough foreshadowing of that,” he told the publication, going on to insist Daenerys had repeatedly demonstrated the capacity to be “brutal”.

He noted the trials she has had to endure in the lead-up to becoming the Mad Queen.

“She’s waited years and years to get over to Westeros and take what is hers,” Isaac said. “She’s been delayed. She’s had to fight an army of literal dead people. She nearly died.

“She’s lost Jorah (Iain Glen), Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) and now the person she’s deeply in love with isn’t comfortable with her and he threatens the claim she’s had for years.

“She’s sick of it. She’s p***ed off and she’s lost her mind,” he added.

“I don’t think it’s some plot twist to be shocking for the sake of shocking. I think it’s genuine character development.”

The Bran Stark actor said he believed fans who had made up their mind about “hating” season eight wouldn’t be soothed by the final episode, which airs tomorrow night.

“I personally think it’s a very clever way of tying it all up,” he said, defending the season. “This next episode, again, is not going to please everybody.

Meanwhile, the petition, which was posted after episode four of the last season aired but has gone viral in the past week, says: “David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.

“This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”

Isaac’s co-star Jacob Anderson, 28, who plays Grey Worm in Game of Thrones, has also responded to the petition when asked what he made of it by a TMZ reporter.

Keeping his answer brief and to the point, the actor simply said: “That sucks.”

Game of Thrones season 8 concludes on HBO in the US on Sunday 9pm ET and on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK on Monday at 2am & 9pm BST.
