Eurovision 2019 Italy: Has Mahmood already been revealed as this year’s winner with Soldi?

Eurovision 2019 Grand Final will see 26 countries take to the stage in the bid to be crowned this year’s winner – but has the victor already been revealed?

Netherlands singer Duncan Laurence is currently the bookmakers’ favourite to be the winner.

However, new date from YouTube has shown the most popular entry for this year’s Song Contest with some rather surprising results.

Italy’s act Mahmood has had the most views on YouTube between May 1 and May 10 – could this mean he will triumph?

Alessandro Mahmoud, known by his stage name Mahmood, will sing Soldi tonight in Tel Aviv and it seems like Eurovision fans like the track.

He is by far the most popular entry on YouTube with Malta’s act Michela trailing behind in second place with the single Chameleon.

Netherlands’ Duncan is in third place with Arcade, followed by France’s Bilal Hassani.

Unfortunately for the UK’s Michael Rice, he doesn’t place in the top 10 most popular entries and bookies believe he will place last in the contest.

Meanwhile, the data from YouTube has predicted Malta will receive the most amount of top votes from other countries.

The data suggests 27 countries will award 12 points to Malta judging by where the song Chameleon is the most popular.

Italy’s Mahmood’s song is most popular in 10 of the countries included in Eurovision with Netherlands’ Duncan Laurence’s Arcade only the most popular in two countries.

France’s Bilal and Cyprus’ Tamta are both only the most popular song in one other country, excluding their own.

Judging by the data it looks as though it will be a close competition between the Netherlands, Malta and Italy.

But despite the finding, the Netherlands are still odds-on to be this year’s victor.

Duncan Laurence finds himself at just 8/11 with the bookies to be crowned as tonight’s Eurovision winner in Tel Aviv, with Australia looking to be the closest rivals of the Dutch at 11/2.

Unfortunately for the UK it’s more likely that Michael Rice finishes in last (4/1) than causes an almighty upset and wins as a 150/1 outsider.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “It looks like The Netherlands already have one hand on success, and it would be the biggest Eurovision shock of all-time if Laurence didn’t emerge victorious.”

Meanwhile, ahead of tonight’s Grand Final, Norway’s act KEiiNO took a cheeky swipe at the UK’s entry suggesting viewers may think of Brexit when they hear it, which could be its downfall.

Tom Hugo from the band said: “If people think of Brexit when they listen to UK’s entry, you’ve definitely sent the wrong song to the ESC.

“But I think Michael Rice is a super talented singer and an awesome guy, so he might do well on Saturday.”

Eurovision Song Contest airs on BBC One at 8pm.
