Antoine Griezmann: Barcelona dressing room AGAINST Atletico Madrid transfer for one reason

Griezmann has confirmed he will be leaving Atletico Madrid at the end of the season, with Barcelona expected to seal the signature of the World Cup winner.

The France international has decided enough is enough after five years in the Spanish capital, and said earlier this week: “After speaking with [coach Diego Simeone], [CEO Miguel] Angel Gil Marin and with people in the club’s hierarchy, I wanted to speak with you, the fans.

“You have always shown me a lot of love and I wanted to be the first to tell you that I’ve taken the decision to leave to see other things and take on other challenges.

“It’s been a difficult route to take, but it’s what I feel I need.

“Thanks for everything during five fantastic years here, where I was able to win my first big trophies.

“There have been some incredible moments that I will always remember. You, the supporters, will always be in my heart.”

While many think a move to Barcelona is a foregone conclusion, however, Spanish newspaper Marca have delivered an update.

And they say some members of the dressing room think the Catalan giants should not a pursue a transfer.

That is because of how Griezmann snubbed the La Liga champions a year ago.

Everything had been agreed between the player and Barcelona but, at the last minute, he changed his mind.

Marca add that Barcelona directors are in agreement. That the player had his chance and failed to take it.

They do say, though, that Griezmann will not be moving to PSG.

Some reports have suggested the striker has held talks with the Ligue 1 giants about joining Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at the Parc des Princes.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo, meanwhile, has revealed Diego Simeone’s reaction to Griezmann’s exit bombshell.

“Simeone is disappointed, like the others,” Cerezo told COPE’s ‘El Partidazo’ radio show.

“He was determined to leave and there was no chance of convincing him.

“I don’t know or care [who Griezmann’s next team will be]. But when a team wants to pay a release clause, it’s normal to communicate and we haven’t received any messages from anyone just yet.

“Wherever he goes, I hope that he is treated the same as he was here… and good luck!”
