Game of Thrones Season 8 star wishes his character was 'MORE like the books'

It seems almost unbelievable. After eight years when the popularity and acclaim continued to grow among fans and critics in rare agreement, suddenly everything has changed. Now fans and critics, in even rarer agreement, are both seriously criticising the show just when it was supposed to reach its glorious finale. Many comments centre on the show faltering as it drifts further from the source material, since there are no longer any books to anchor the plot and characters. The actor who plays one of the most divisive villains has added his voice.

It’s tough to go toe to toe with Cersei, but Euron Greyjoy, aka Danish star Pilou Asbaek, has revelled in it.

His unhinged performance has been an almost cartoon villain, which the actor says was great fun to play. However, he made some pointed comments about the way the books portray him.

Asbaek told Indie Wire: “I know I divided the audience. Some people love it. Some people hate it. I thought it was fun. I’ve done so many heroes in Denmark and in Europe that I just wanted to go old school villain. That’s also how Dan and David wrote it.”

Fans of the source books know Euron is darker and more menacing.

He also claims to have a fabled dragon horn which could wrest control of the mystical beasts away from Daenerys. Readers will have to wait to find out whether that proves to be more satisfying than hundred of giant crossbows which had a rather selective ability to hit dragons, depending on the plot requirements…
