Avengers Endgame: ‘Fat Thor made people ANGRY on set’, screenwriters reveal

It was one of the more controversial aspects of Avengers Endgame. When the muscular god of thunder Thor was revealed to be obese and alcoholic, some fans found the humour around this sudden change hilarious while others accused it of fat-shaming. And ‘fat Thor’ didn’t just split Marvel fans, but members of the cast and crew, according to Avengers Endgame screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Speaking with Empire, it turns out people on set were angry with the creative decision.

Markus said: “There was a sad moment where it was like, ‘We’ve got this gross, disguising body for Thor now.’

“And then they unveiled it and it’s just kind of like everybody else’s body here.”

McFeely added: “There were many people on set who were angry at us about doing that to Thor.”

Markus continued: “He kills the biggest bad guy in the MCU and it’s such a failure. It breaks him completely.”

WHY ‘FAT THOR’ DIDN’T LOSE WEIGHT

Apparently, Hemsworth had to be quite physical in his role while wearing the bodysuit.

They said: “It was quite heavy. That suit started to wear on his back, which was scary when you have someone who has to be so physical.

“We were shooting in Atlanta, so exterior stuff in Atlanta in the summer was brutal.”

Avengers Endgame is out now.
