Kate Middleton wedding: Where is her £1million tiara? What Duchess' tiara choice revealed

Kate Middleton and Prince William got married eight years ago at a lavish ceremony at Westminster Abbey.  The couple have since had three children together, Prince George, five, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one.  At the wedding, Kate wore a stunning Alexander McQueen gown designed by Sarah Burton.  She matched this with a Cartier Halo Tiara picked from the royal collection which once belonged to the Queen Mother.

Kate and William announced their engagement in 2010 after they had been dating for seven years.

For the ceremony, Kate wore a stunning dress which had an ivory satin bodice and floral lace sleeves and cost an estimated £250,000.

The skirt of the Alexander McQueen dress had padded hips which was made famous by the designers, and she also had a bridal train which is believed to have been around 8.85 feet long.

As well as her stunning custom gown, Kate wore an impressive collection of dazzling jewellery.

She wore a pair of Robinson Pelham diamond-set pear-shaped earrings which were a gift from her parents.

At a royal wedding, the bride will often wear a tiara and Kate was no different.

She chose to pay her respects to the Queen and the Queen mother by choosing one that was of great significance to them.

Kate wore the Cartier Halo Tiara which was picked from her new husband’s family collection and loaned to her by Queen Elizabeth II, 93.

The tiara was made by Cartier in 1936 and gifted to the Queen Mother by King George VI as an anniversary present, according to The Court Jeweller.

The diamond and platinum tiara was then given to the Queen on her 18th birthday and Kate chose one that had been worn by many royals before her.

Previously worn by the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, and the Princess Royal, Kate opted for the sentimental headpiece.

Jewellery expert, Deborah Papas, told the Mirror the headpiece is estimated to be worth between £750,000 to £1,250,000.

Despite it turning heads on her big day, the Duchess of Cambridge has not worn the headpiece since.

Last year, it appeared on display at the National Gallery in Canberra, Australia, as part of Cartier: The Exhibition.

The tiara stayed there until 22 July 2018, and it is likely it is now safely stored away with the rest of the royal jewellery.

At a royal wedding 25-years before Kate’s, Sarah Ferguson, 59, was gifted the York tiara to wear at her wedding to Prince Andrew, 59.

Many royal enthusiasts thought their daughter, Princess Eugenie, 29, would wear this tiara again for her own wedding, but she opted for a Greville Kokoshnik design instead.
