Man Utd news: Alan Shearer SLAMS one flop and calls side 'embarrassing' after Cardiff loss

That’s according to former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer.

Manchester United were beaten 2-0 at home by already-relegated Cardiff City on Sunday in their final game of the season.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing scored a double as the Welsh side finished off their disappointing season in style.

For United, Sunday’s defeat capped a campaign to forget, which saw them finish sixth and five points off the Champions League places.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer declared that United’s performance was “embarrassing”.

United have now gone six Premier League games without a win, including a draw and a defeat against two relegated sides in one week, after last week’s 1-1 draw at Huddersfield.

“It’s been embarrassing for them,” Shaerer said.

“Drawing last weekend, getting turned over as they did today, and in the manner they did today.

“There was arguments about the penalty, but it’s not a penalty. [Diogo] Dalot didn’t touch him and he misses the ball completely.”

Fans were left fuming with the circumstances surrounding Cardiff’s second goal, after Paul Pogba failed to track Josh Murphy after a throw-in, and the winger passed across goal to Mendez-Laing, who tapped into the net.

And Shearer singled out Pogba for criticism and declared that the mistake shows how poor United have been.

“This is the problem at Old Trafford, this optimises everything that is wrong with this football club and this football team,” he continued.

“Murphy and Pogba are together, and it’s a throw-in.

“That is not difficult, that is not hard, that is simple to stay with your man.

“Murphy just runs off Pogba with ease and knocks it over for a tap-in, and that tells you everything wrong with that football club at the moment.

“It’s going to be very difficult to change.“
