Dan Walker: BBC Breakfast star and Piers Morgan engage in BAFTA Twitter spat – ‘We failed’

The two well-known presenters went back and forth on Twitter as Piers Morgan insisted he had “failed” by not winning at the awards.

The exchange started when Dan Walker insisted he hoped no one would consider Liverpool had failed this season as Manchester City claimed the Premier League title on Sunday.

Both Liverpool and Man City had been going head-to-head throughout the whole of the season as neither dropped many points but which ended with the Manchester side narrowly beating Liverpool by a single point.

The Merseyside club only lost one game throughout the whole season which led the BBC Breakfast host to state that should not be considered failures for their performance over the whole season.

Dan said on Twitter: “I really hope there is no mention of ‘failure’ around Liverpool finishing 2nd to Manchester City.

“Both teams have been incredible this season and Klopp’s crop have been pipped by one of the best sides we’ve ever seen.

Quickly, the Good Morning Britain co-host fired back at Dan saying that “in football, you win or you fail”.

In response, Dan made a veiled comment towards GMB being nominated for two BAFTAS but winning neither.

Jokingly, Dan asked “What about at the BAFTAs” in reference to the programme’s loss to Channel 4 in the news coverage category of the awards ceremony.

While the BBC Breakfast star’s response failed to get many likes on Twitter, it certainly managed to spark a response from the outspoken ITV host.

Responding to Dan Piers fired back by saying: “We failed.

“But by your yardstick we’re winners.”

Disregarding Dan, Piers continued to insist GMB had failed by not winning at the BAFTAs.

Finishing the spat with the last word, Piers continued his sentiment: “Thanks, but we’re failures.

“If you don’t win, you fail.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6am.
