Why didn’t Princess Eugenie wear York tiara like Sarah? What her wedding jewellery reveals

Princess Eugenie got married at Windsor castle last year after being with her partner, Jack Brooksbank, for seven years.  The Princess of York is ninth in line to the throne and the daughter of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, 59.  Before the wedding, there was speculation she would wear the York tiara, which Sarah Ferguson wore on her wedding day.  Instead, she opted for another tiara from the royal collection, and Claire Adler, jewellery specialist and PR consultant, revealed her choice had a sweet link to the Royal Family.

Princess Eugenie’s choice of the the Greville Kokoshnik tiara still had a very strong connection to the Royal Family, Claire told Express.co.uk.

“The tiara Princess Eugenie chose for her wedding day, with its grand 93.70 carat central emerald, is steeped in history,” she revealed.

“It was made by Boucheron in 1919, bequeathed to Her Majesty The Queen’s mother in 1942 by wealthy socialite Margaret Greville and was worn by both the Queen and her late mother.”

Even though Princess Eugenie did not choose the same tiara as her mum, her choice may still have been a nod to Sarah’s Irish roots.

Claire explained: “While emeralds are the perfect fit for Eugenie’s beautiful green eyes and colouring, the Greville Kokoshnik tiara and Eugenie’s diamond and emerald earrings from her groom were a nod to the Emerald Isle, hinting at the Ferguson family’s Irish heritage.”

As well as wearing diamond and emerald earrings gifted to her by Jack, Eugenie was spotted wearing her engagement ring at the wedding, which echoed Sarah’s own engagement ring.

“Eugenie’s engagement ring meanwhile, in its halo setting, with its central padparadscha sapphire encircled by diamonds, echoes her mother Sarah Ferguson’s Burmese ruby engagement ring,” Claire said.

She reportedly showed another nod to the Royal Family at her reception dinner by choosing to wear brooches in her hair like her grandmother, the Queen, had done before.

“At Princess Eugenie’s private wedding dinner, where she was not publicly photographed, she also styled one of the Queen’s six treasured diamond, gold and silver Wheat-Ear brooches as a hair slide, as the Queen also did in her earlier years,” Claire told Express.co.uk.

Eugenie appeared to use her accessorising at her wedding to show how important her family are to her.
