Star Wars 9 Rise of Skywalker NEW trailer release date: Exciting news

After great disturbances in the Force, Star Wars 9 finally revealed the title and first trailer at Star Wars Celebration in April. Fans have been bitterly divided ever since Rian Johnson’s controversial The Last Jedi but the first look at The Rise of Skywalker seems to have generated almost universal praise. With Disney announcing the next Star Wars trilogy movie will be released in December 2022, 2024 and 2026, there is still the matter of bringing the full Skywalker saga to a close. New reports will raise excitement with talk the next proper look will be coming earlier than expected.

Originally, fans had expected the Star Wars 9 footage to drop at Disney 23, the major biennial event which next takes place this August.

However, industry site MakingStarWars reports Disney will now use that event to promote another huge priority property: “A well-respected source of mine with an excellent track record for accuracy tells MakingStarWars.net San Diego Comic Con should have a Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker panel this summer and this year’s D23 is supposed to focus on The Mandalorian and the connection to The Disney+ service.

“So it would seem at SDCC we have the chance for either a trailer or an extensive behind-the-scenes reel. Our sources were not sure exactly what choices had been made on that front at this time.”

San Diego Comic-Con 2019 takes place from July 18 to July 21 this year. It hosted a major Force Awakens panel but was skipped by The Last Jedi, Rogue One and the Han Solo spin-off.

But, why would Lucasfilm suddenly revert back to SDCC and why would Disney 23 not focus on Rise of Skywalker?

The huge event will absolutely feature the high-profile Star Wars 9 content, but Disney is currently heavily promoting the launch of the streaming service Disney+ in November. One of the biggest properties for the new platform is the original TV series, The Mandalorian. It makes sense that the Disney conference will focus on everything which will draw the most attention to Disney+.

If so, that means fans have just over two months until the next extended look at The Rise of Skywalker.

Will new footage give the first look at Luke or Leia? Even more exciting, is Emperor Palpatine really coming back?

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out in UK cinemas on December 20.
