Seahawks fans will love Russell Wilson’s FIVE words about Doug Baldwin after he's let go

Baldwin, who spent eight seasons with the Seahawks, began his career as an undrafted free agent and went on to win the Super Bowl with the organisation.

Wilson took to Twitter after Seattle made the announcement.

“Greatest Competitor I’ve ever known,” Wilson said in a tweet.

“Mr. Always Open… grateful for who you are as a player, teammate and man. Thanks.”

And according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport the wide receiver has been released by the Seahawks as they feel his injuries are so severe they cannot allow him to continue playing.

“[Baldwin] has been battling a sleuth of injuries, including a groin injury,” Rapoport said.

“He had an operation this off season, including knee, including shoulder.

“My understanding is his injuries are so bad they will not allow him to play anymore.”

If it is the end of his NFL journey Baldwin will finish his career with 492 receptions, 6,593 receiving yards and 49 receiving touchdowns.

Baldwin was a significant part of the Seattle’s offence last year despite battling injuries.

And he was one of the few reliable options for Russell Wilson, as he caught 50 balls for 618 yards and five touchdowns in 2018.

The Seahawks announced on Thursday they were terminating his contract after Baldwin failed a physical designation.

At the same time Seattle confirmed strong safety Kam Chancellor will also be released for the same reason.

“The Seahawks have made the difficult decision to terminate/failed physical Doug Baldwin and Kam Chancellor,” Seahawks general manager John Schneider said in a statement.

“These are two of the most iconic players in franchise history and both were instrumental in establishing our championship culture, great examples of competitiveness and leadership on the field and in the community.

“These legendary players will always be a part of our Seahawks family.”

Baldwin, a two-time Pro Bowler, carved out a career by being tougher and playing harder than those around him but it appears his body can no longer take the punishment of playing in the league.

He has undergone three surgeries since the end of last season, with the latest surgery being a sports hernia operation, which was expected to sideline him for at least two months.

However, Rapoport predicts that if Baldwin retires, it will not be the end of him being in the limelight.

“Though of course given how charismatic Baldwin is, there is no way we have seen the last of him in the public light,” he said.
