Graham Norton: ‘I started it’ TV host stuns Holly Willoughby with royal family revelation

Talk show host Graham Norton, 56, joined Holly Willoughby, 38, and Phillip Schofield, 57, on This Morning to discuss his 20 years on his show. Within their unearthed chat, Phillip quizzed Graham about a rumour that some of the royal family members were to appear on his sofa. Spilling all, Graham told the hosts: “There was a rumour that they were coming on the show and we got very excited in the office. We was like ‘Ooh, did you hear that rumour?’ And we tracked it down and we discovered that the person who started that rumour was me.”

After his admission, Holly and Phillip burst into laughter, prompting Graham to explain further.

He added: “I was at some book event and I said it and it got reported that they were considering coming on the show.”

Graham was seemingly referring to quotes he said during the Specsavers National Book Awards last year.

He told OK! Magazine: “Meghan Markle, and Harry would be great! Even Kate Middleton and Prince William.

“They did The One Show so I think maybe I could get them!”

Graham also previously said he would like to have “some of the younger royals to come on” his show.

He previously told Express.co.uk: “I do think… I would quite like some of the younger royals to come on.”

He added of the older generation: “Yawn, yawn, yawn. If they’re on a stamp, we’re not having them.”

Despite his wishes, members of the royal family are yet to appear on his show.

But the host has interviewed a series of A-Listers including Tom Cruise, Rihanna and Mark Wahlberg.

Graham previously spoke out about how he deals with “awful” guests.

When asked how he reacts when he realises his audience do not like a guest, he said he tries to “shut” the latter up.

Spilling all to NZ Herald, he said: “On the night, once you realise ‘You’re awful!’ about a guest, you just try to shut them up and focus on the other guests.

“The audience hated one guest last season. The person was difficult and kept dropping weird words into the conversation as if they had a bet with someone.

“I just talked to the other guests, and their bit got edited right down in the end.”

The Graham Norton show airs tonight at 10:35pm on BBC One.
