Galaxy Note 8 gets major update ahead of Samsung's Galaxy S9 and Note 9

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 appears to be first in line for the latest update from the Korean technology firm.

The May security patch was revealed earlier this week and it seems that this popular phablet is already beginning to receive the changes.

According to SamMobile, some Note 8 owners are seeing the May update in their settings.

This vital download includes fixes to numerous Google Android vulnerabilities including some that are deemed critical.

There are also 21 other changes that are unique to Samsung’s software including one mends a problem which allows keyboard learned words and clipboard contents to be leaked on the lock screen via Bixby.

Samsung is constantly pushing out these updates to make sure its devices stay safe from the latest threats.

In a post on its security website, the tech firm said: “At Samsung, we take security and privacy issues very seriously and we are doing our best to respond as quickly as possible.

“Securing your device and maintaining the trust you place in us is our top priority.

“Samsung releases monthly and quarterly security updates on selected Samsung devices.

“Monthly and quarterly security updates will include patches for Android OS related security issues released by Google, as well as, patches for Samsung-specific security issues.”

It’s currently unclear exactly when everyone will get access to this patch but expect a full rollout over the coming weeks.

If you own a Galaxy device then head to Settings > Software update > Download and install.

News of this update comes as Samsung could be set to reveal a new release date for its Galaxy Fold phone.

This radical device was originally due to hit stores this month but an issue with the display forced Samsung to delay the launch.

Now it seems the Korean firm could be ready to announce an update on the Fold with mobile boss DJ Koh confirming to The Korea Herald that progress is being made.

He says that the company has reviewed the defect and it will reach a conclusion about the device’s launch today or tomorrow.

That could be mean a new release date is imminent.

We’ll bring you more news on this as soon as we get an official statement from Samsung.
