Windows 10 BOOST – Your PC just got a major upgrade with this new feature

Windows 10 is Microsoft’s computer operating system that is braced for a huge upgrade this month.

That is because the American tech giant is expected to release its duly named May 2019 Update for fans.

The new upgrade touts myriad new features that are attempting to make Windows 10 a better operating system than ever before.

Of the legion of new functions offered, there are a few that are most notable such as a new programme called Windows Sandbox that attempts to make testing “untrusted” apps a safer process overall.

Windows Sandbox creates an isolated desktop environment for users to open such programmes, meaning if they are harmful they are less likely to have an impact on user devices.

One of the most important changes offered by the May 2019 Update is the fact it will require around 7GB or more of storage on user devices to make sure “critical OS functions always have access to disk space”, according to Microsoft.

The American tech giant has said the alteration has been designed to “improve the day-to-day function” of user computers.

While the May 2019 Update has a number of upgrades in store, there is a more immediate new feature for the operating system users can take advantage of.

That is because Windows 10 fans can now summon Amazon’s virtual assistant, Alexa, on their computer just by using their voice thanks to a fresh update, as noted by The Verge.

The Alexa app is available to download on the Windows Store and presents users with a virtual helper that can be used to perform myriad functions.

Alexa can be used as an alternative to Microsoft’s own virtual assistant, Cortana.

The ability to summon Alexa with a voice prompt is a noticeable upgrade for the app that previously required users to press a button before uttering commands or questions.

Amazon stated the helper will now be able to respond “even when the app is running in the background or minimised”, meaning it does not need to be displayed on the user’s desktop in order for the functionality to be harnessed.

The retail giant released its Alexa app for Windows 10 back in November last year.

The new version of the programme is available to download right now on the Windows Store.
