Amazon Echo challenged by a new rival that does something this speaker can't

Amazon Echo is the retail giant’s smart speaker range that comes in a variety of models.

Each variant differs in form factor and price with the smallest and most affordable variant of the speaker being the Amazon Echo Dot.

Amazon’s Echo series is comprehensive and feature packed, however it has just been challenged by a new product from Google.

During its I/O press conference taking place at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, Google unveiled a new smart display dubbed the Google Nest Hub Max.

The Google Nest Hub Max is essentially a larger version of the Google Home Hub but has a number of features that differentiate it.

It is worth noting during its I/O keynote, the American tech giant also declared it was changing the name of the smaller Google Home Hub to the Google Nest Hub.

Google Nest Hub Max touts a 10-inch HD display, meaning it is much larger than the 7-inch panel offered by the standard Google Nest Hub.

This means all video streamed, photos viewed and more all appear in a much more striking manner.

Additionally, the Nest Hub Max also houses stereo speakers that Express.co.uk can confirm are capable of getting extremely loud.

One of the most appealing features about the Google Nest Hub Max is its built-in Nest Cam that allows users to see what is going on inside their home when they are away.

The Google Nest Hub Max’s security camera feature is one not present on any model of the Amazon Echo.

The Nest Cam also allows the Nest Hub Max to deliver a number of handy features.

First and foremost, the smart display has a function called Face Match that allows the Nest Hub Max to identify specific users and show personalised content accordingly.

Google’s new feature builds on its Voice Match functionality that is already available on Google Home devices and smartphones.

Moreover, Hub Max can also place video calls and messages using Google Duo.

Finally, the front-facing camera also allows users to play and pause media by raising their hand.

Design-wise the Google Nest Hub Max retains a very familiar aesthetic to the smaller Google Nest Hub thanks to the white border surrounding its panel and fabric-style base.

Google Nest Hub is priced at £219 and will release this summer.
