Pokemon Go fans are counting down to the start of the Detective Pikachu in-game event.
Niantic’s new Pokemon Go event coincides with this week’s launch of the Detective Pikachu movie.
Expect to see Pocket Monsters from the film make an appearance for the duration of the event, as well as other Detective Pikachu bonuses.
The Detective Pikachu event starts at 9pm UK time on May 7, and ends ten days later on May 17.
“Get your detective hats ready and start looking for clues as we celebrate the one and only POKEMON Detective Pikachu movie!” reads a Niantic post.
“Do you have what it takes to keep up with the famous caffeine-powered detective who’s about to electrify audiences all over the world?”
The event puts on the spotlight on Pocket Monsters from the Detective Pikachu movie.
Some will appear more frequently in the wild, while others will appear in Raids.
But perhaps most exciting of all is the ability to capture a Pikachu wearing a detective hat.
Similar to Smeargle, these Detective Pikachu Pocket Monsters will occasionally appear in photographs.
Presumably it will work in the same way as Smeargle, meaning that you can capture a Detective Pikachu after exiting the AR Camera.
Other bonuses include double XP for catching Pokemon throughout the event.
Elsewhere, special Detective Pikachu Field research quests will be available, complete with unique rewards.
Likewise, you can pick up some Detective Pikachu swag from the item shop, including T-shirts and hats for your avatar (above).
