Gwendoline Christie: ‘I was so upset’ Game of Thrones’ Brienne of Tarth angry about THIS

WARNING: This article includes spoilers from Game of Thrones season eight, episode four.

Gwendoline Christie, 40, has been a fan-favourite in Game of Thrones playing Brienne of Tarth since 2012 after the character was introduced in season two.

Viewers have been wanting the new Knight to get together with Ser Jaime Lannister (played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) ever since he defended her in season three, leading to him getting his hand cut off.

And they finally did in season eight, episode four as the two enjoyed a night together.

However, not long after, Jaime left Brienne and headed back to King’s Landing to be with his sister and former lover, Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey).

Speaking about the devastating moment for Brienne, Gwendoline admitted it is “heartbreaking” to see.

“I was so upset for her,” the actress told Entertainment Weekly.

”I know it’s just a character and I’m an actor who’s lucky to do her job,” she continued. “It’s so heartbreaking. But it’s life isn’t it? Life is heartbreaking.”

Gwendoline admitted she never thought Brienne and Jaime would get together, which makes it much worse.

“I never assumed they would be together,” she said. I didn’t think that would happen. And now I can feel a million hearts breaking.”

She continued: “I have no judgment of Cersei but their relationship is dysfunctional.”

Gwendoline said she had to take a break and be on her own after finding out what would happen to Brienne.

She said: “That’s when I went very red. I was very upset and I had to go for a walk.

“And I know it’s silly. It’s just a character, not a living human being, but I feel for her so deeply.”

After Jaime left Winterfell, Brienne, who was knighted by the Lannister in episode two, got stuck back in to work.

“I love that she doesn’t crumble from it,” the star said.

“She goes back to work. Because she always loves work — that feels refreshing, a woman can be happy without a companion.”

Gwendoline added: “But my god. That’s the Game of Thrones, isn’t it?

“Just when you think things are going to go well it punches you harder than ever in the guts…”

Game of Thrones episode five, season eight will air on HBO at 9pm Sunday and will be simulcast in the UK at 2am Monday and at 9pm.
