Sri Lanka terror attacks: Funeral held for three children of ASOS billionaire

The fashion tycoon stood with his wife Anne and daughter Astrid in front of the coffins for his children Alma, 15, Agnes, 12, and Alfred, five, at Aarhus Cathedral in Denmark. The service was attended by mourners including members of the Danish royal family and the country’s prime minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen. Mr Povlsen was on holiday with his family at the Shangri-La hotel in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo when it was targeted by suicide bombers.

The ASOS tycoon’s son Alfred and daughters Alma and Agnes were killed in the attack.

Mr Povlsen is thought to have been injured in the blast, while his third daughter Astrid survived.

The funeral comes after the family described the loss as “completely incomprehensible” at a memorial service last week in Danish town Brande.

They said: “The loss of our beloved children Alma, Agnes and Alfred are completely incomprehensible.

“With the many lovely people we have around us, close friends, talented colleagues and our loving family we will come together through it.

“We greatly appreciate the humanity that is also shown in Brande tonight – not only to our families and children, but to all the victims of the cruel acts in Sri Lanka.”

Suicide bombers hit churches and hotels in Sri Lanka on April 21, killing worshippers and tourists.

Terror group ISIS has claimed responsibility for the deadly bombings, which left more than 250 people dead.

A string of arrests have been made in the wake of the attacks and the country is on high alert amid fears extremists could strike again.
