Sophie Turner: ‘You're not good enough’ Game of Thrones star reveals depression battle

Sophie Turner, 23, bravely shared how growing up in the spotlight due to her role in Game of Thrones has affected her mental health. The British actress, who began playing Sansa Stark in the HBO drama series when she was only 13, revealed she has been seeing a therapist to help her cope with the pressures of fame. Sophie spoke out on the issue in an interview with Marie Claire Australia this month, admitting film and TV studios encouraged her to lose weight. The star, who recently got married to Joe Jonas, 29, said: “Everyone needs a therapist, especially when people are constantly telling you you’re not good enough and you don’t look good enough.

“I think it’s necessary to have someone to talk to and to help you through that.”

She went on to explain: “My metabolism suddenly decided to fall to the depths of the ocean and I started to get spotty and gain weight, and all of this was happening to me on camera.”

Sophie also got candid about her mental health issues in a conversation with Dr. Phil, 68, back in April.

Addressing her battle with depression on the American talk show host’s podcast, Phil in the Blanks, she divulged: “I’ve suffered with my depression for five or six years now.

“The biggest challenge for me is getting out of bed and getting out of the house. Learning to love yourself is the biggest challenge.”

The actress then recalled a time when she experienced suicidal thoughts as a teenager, adding: “It’s weird.

“I say I wasn’t very depressed when I was younger, but I used to think about suicide a lot when I was younger. I don’t know why though.

“Maybe it’s just a weird fascination I used to have, but yeah, I used to think about it. I don’t think I ever would have gone through with it. I don’t know.”

Fortunately, the Game of Thrones star said she receives plenty of support from her other half, Joe, as she told Dr. Phil: “When someone tells you they love you every day it makes you love yourself.”

Sophie surprised fans when she tied the knot with the Jonas Brothers singer on Wednesday night in Las Vegas.

Wedding guests included superstar DJ Diplo, 40, and Joe’s siblings Nick, 26, and Kevin Jonas, 31.

Diplo filmed parts of the ceremony and shared them with his 5.2 million followers in a series of Instagram stories.

In one of the clips filmed by the Close To Me hitmaker, Sophie could be seen walking into the small wedding venue in a flowing white dress to meet her husband-to-be and his brothers at the altar.

The DJ captioned the video: “Gonna hit this wedding real quick.”

According to the MailOnline, another clip, which Diplo live-streamed via his Instagram, showed Sophie repeating: “I thee wed… and I love you… and I thank God he gave me you.”

The publication said the couple then repeated in unison: “I promise you, I will never leave you. I will love and trust you all the days of my life.”

Joe shared a flirty tribute to his bride on Instagram yesterday, in view of his 10.1 million followers.

Sharing a gallery of photos which show the glamorous actress posing for the camera with a red phone in hand, he captioned the post: “Hot Damnnnnnnn”, alongside a fire emoji.
