Red Dead Redemption 2 UPDATE: Red Dead Online news and shock Rockstar rumours

A small Red Dead Redemption 2 Online update was released this week, which is set to be followed by a much more significant expansion on PS4 and Xbox One.

As confirmed by Rockstar Games earlier this week, players on Xbox One can now compete in Open Target Races, where you race on horseback to take down all the targets scattered across an open space.

The new update also includes being able to grab the Jawbone Knife from the Fence, the double-breasted Hartman Jacket, as well as the snake-adorned Diamondback Hat.

There are also various bonuses available this week to help you boost your Gold bar count before the big expansion arrives on consoles.

Rockstar Games has not set a date for when their Spring update will be going live, but fans are hoping it will be later this month.

This is due to the lack of content currently available for fans to enjoy when compared to its other major rival, GTA Online.

GTA Online was another massive multiplayer mode that suffered from a lack of variety during its first year, having eventually seen many big updates released.

But something that GTA Online didn’t have to worry about was competition from Red Dead Online, which took a long time to hit the market after GTA 5 was launched.

But there are reports out this year that suggest GTA 6 could be launched in 2020.

That would, of course, create a massive amount of pressure on Red Dead Online to start performing before GTA 6 was released.

And another leak this week suggests that GTA 6 may use a few tricks found in Red Dead Redemption 2.

According to a recent post found on Pastebin, the next big game project from Rockstar will borrow the stranger dialogue mechanic from RDR2.

And the GTA 6 post also makes the big claim that the next Grand Theft Auto game won’t be coming to the PS4 due to “memory restrictions”.

If that’s the case, then GTA 6 could also be skipping the Xbox One and solely focusing on next-gen consoles.

News of such a big new project could worry fans who are waiting to see Red Dead Online grow before they move onto something new.

However, this new report contradicts the earlier one, stating that Rockstar Game has yet to settle on a release date for GTA 6.

“Rockstar Games has an idea about when they want to release the game, but the corporates want to analyse the sales of PS5 and the Xbox 2,” the report concludes.

If this is the case and GTA 6 takes longer to be launched on next-gen consoles, it would give Rockstar more time to upgrade the current Red Dead Online experience.

As always, all of these reports remain rumours and need to be taken with a big pinch of salt.

There’s nothing official from Rockstar on what they have planned next gaming-wise, with Red Dead Online their prime focus in 2019.

And this will be kicking off soon with the big Spring expansion on PS4 and Xbox One.

From what we have been told so far by Rockstar Games, the big Spring update will bring a number of new features and missions to Red Dead multiplayer.

Rockstar has confirmed that more ‘A Land of Opportunities’ Missions will be part of the update, where fans will get to continue Jessica LeClerk’s search for revenge as you explore the path of a Gunslinger or an Outlaw.

This will launch alongside new Free Roam Mission givers and mission types, with Rockstar hinting at some single player cameos.

Rockstar is also planning to expand the dynamic events that can occur in Red Dead Online, meaning fighting off ambushes, initiating rescues and defending folks in need.

And from the comments being made online, Rockstar would do better to release their next major expansion sooner rather than later.
