Pointless Celebrities: 'Ouch' Alexander Armstrong gobsmacked by celeb's honest admission

Pointless returned to the BBC tonight with another episode involving eight more famous faces from the world of literary.

For tonight’s episode, hosts Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman were joined by several writers with varying backgrounds.

And when it was the turn of Grace Dent to provide a Pointless answer, she stunned Alexander with her shock confession.

“Grace, welcome to Pointless, wonderful to have you,” Alexander introduced.

“Now you actually read English Literature. When you read English Literature, which I also did, people always go ‘So you’re going to be a writer or a teacher?’ But you’re living the dream!” He continued.

Grace replied: “I am doing exactly the thing that I’ve always wanted to do. I don’t mean being here!”

The camera then panned to Alexander and Richard who both pulled faces and Alexander put his hand up to her and turned away, jokingly ignoring her.

The food critic explained: “I wasn’t so specific in my dream but yes it is lovely to be here until I saw this [the board].”

“Ouch,” Richard commented and Grace continued to talk.

The first round’s topic was about languages, in particularly German and Spanish clothing.

Whilst the celebrity contestants struggled to provide the correct answers, those watching at home also commented on the difficulty.

Taking to Twitter, one said: “These are so hard. Don’t remember any of them from my German O’Level!! #pointless,” (sic).

“Some difficult answers there #pointless,” another added.

Nevertheless, it was Charlie Higson and Sally Gardner who made it through to the final round.

Up for grabs was a jackpot of £2,750 for their chosen charities and after winning the Pointless answer in the former round, they chose the category ‘Nun’ Films.

They were tasked with naming the cast from the following three films: Nuns on the Run, The Nun Story or The Sound of Music.

After a minute of discussing with one another, they said Audrey Hepburn, Robbie Coltrane and Christopher Plumber.

But their answers were not good enough, despite scoring low, they didn’t find a Pointless answer.

It comes after yesterday’s show when Alexander reminisced about a former drama he took part in filming.

However, he got so wrapped up in telling the story, he completely went off track for a few minutes before Richard had to remind him about the show.

Pointless Celebrities returns to BBC One tomorrow at 5:45pm
