Martin Compston: ‘Can't wait for it to be over' Line of Duty star speaks out on finale

Martin Compston, 34, made a stunning revelation about the final episode of Line of Duty during an appearance on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch this morning. The actor, who plays DS Steve Arnott, admitted although he is “chuffed” with the attention the drama is receiving this year, he is also excited for series five to finally be over. Martin went on to explain that viewers repeatedly barrage him about spoilers on Twitter. He made the surprising comment to hosts Tim Lovejoy, 51, and Simon Rimmer, 56, saying: “I’m chuffed with the attention the show’s getting,

“But one of the reasons I can’t wait for it to be over is because, like, I can put out a tweet saying, ‘Just had a sausage roll on Sunday Brunch’, and I guarantee somebody will tweet me back going ‘Please no spoilers.’”

However, in spite of the endless social media attention, Martin shared his hopes that the show’s dedicated fans will not be disappointed with the finale.

He divulged: “There will be a few big pay-offs and some things resolved.”

The star also teased some big news about the future of the programme, adding: “The show has been commissioned for another series, but who knows who’ll make it there.”

Elsewhere, Martin was recently caught up in a shocking car crash, which left him without injuries, but feeling “shaken”.

The incident took place in Salford, Manchester where the actor was travelling in a black cab.

Martin’s taxi driver Derek Burton, 71, said the Line of Duty star screamed when he heard a “thundering bang” while stationary at a red light.

Derek told The Sun: “We didn’t know what happened, we hadn’t seen the truck.”

He added about the lorry:  “It smashed into where he was sitting. Martin’s door was bashed in.

“It was probably doing 10mph but was so big it destroyed the cab.”

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Martin for comment.

The actor took to Twitter to speak out about the frightening moment in view of his 201,000 followers.

Making light of the crash, he shared a humorous picture of his co-star DCI Kate Flemming (Vicky McClure) on a HGV vehicle.

Taking the opportunity to reassure his fans, Martin captioned the post with a reference to the show’s unknown ‘H’.

He wrote: “Dash cam footage of the ‘H’ GV that tried to take me out. I’m all good folks.

“Sunday Brunch tomorrow then the big one #seriesfinale #lineofduty.”

Line Of Duty continues tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One.
