Gemma Atkinson, 34, was in for a rude awakening this morning when she attempted to have a lie in after boyfriend Gorka Marquez, 28, called her house phone in a panic. The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant, who is pregnant with her first child, spoke out about the tiring misunderstanding on her Instagram story, in view of her one million followers. She explained: “So I’m up everyday at four o’clock for work, which is fine, I’m used to it, I’ve done it for three years, it’s no biggie. “Weekends I get up at about half six, which is a lay in for me so again it’s fine.”
Gemma then went on to explain how her baby is contributing to restless nights, leaving her more exhausted than usual.
She continued: “However, I’ve been waking up at that time every weekend because usually the little sprog has a party and it wakes you up, it’s uncomfortable.
“This morning was the first time it happened, but I managed to get myself back to sleep, the party was going on but I thought you know what just try to get back to sleep and it worked.”
Unfortunately, the Hits Radio presenter’s excitement at the prospect of a lie in was interrupted when she suddenly heard the house phone ring.
Gemma added: “Gorka’s on tour so I didn’t message him when I got up at half past six because I went back to sleep, so of course he rings the house phone panicking.”
The star then impersonated her other half’s Spanish accent as she quoted him saying: “Are you okay? I’ve not heard from you! Are you okay?”
She then concluded the story by airing her frustrations over the incident, explaining: “So the one day I’m trying to have a lay in, he rings the house phone anyway!
“So it’s safe to say my sleeping days are over! That’s it, no more sleep.”
In spite of her missed opportunity for extra sleep, Gemma issued an apology to the professional dancer for worrying him.
The actress tried to contain her giggles as she admitted: “I’m sorry Gorka, and thank you for checking in on me.”
Elsewhere, Gemma gave Gorka another shock when she jokingly declared that Giovanni Pernice, 28, was her favourite dancer from the Strictly Come Dancing – The Professionals Tour.
The former Hollyoaks star made the cheeky admission in a video on her boyfriend’s Instagram Story, in view of his 351,000 followers.
Ahead of Gorka’s opening night on the tour, he turned to his girlfriend for support as he asked: “Are you coming tomorrow to watch the show?”
Gemma excitedly replied: “Yes, I’m going to heckle on the front row!”
However, the sweet conversation suddenly took a funny turn when Gemma seized the opportunity to poke fun at Gorka when he wondered: “Who’s your favourite?”
The former Strictly contestant then began to gush over Italian dancer Giovanni Pernice, 28, as she jokingly claimed he was her “favourite” from the BBC show.
Gorka, who appeared to be stunned over his girlfriend’s revelation, simply exclaimed: “What?”, as his face fell in disappointment.
