He is now just one belt away from becoming the undisputed middleweight champion of the world, and he could well now eye Demetrius Andrade’s WBO strap.
The same panel that awarded Canelo his controversial split decision victory over Gennady Golovkin last September, scored the contest 115-113, 115-113 and 116-112 in his favour.

Canelo up for GGG trilogy fight
Canelo was faced with inevitable questions after the win over Jacobs, and he offered boxing fans hope they may get to see a third match against Gennady Golovkin.
“I just want the biggest challenge, that’s all I want for my next fight,” he said.
“For me we’re done [Golovkin], but if the people want another fight then we’ll do it again and I’ll beat him again.
“I will defend what’s mine and I will fight anyone, Viva Mexico!”
Golovkin booed in Las Vegas
The fearsome Kazakh did not want to pick a winner before the fight, claiming he just wanted to watch as a fan.
Sporting a smart pink jacket, he gave an interview with DAZN ahead of the main event.
It resulted in a resounding number of boos from the crowd.
Golovkin may now seek revenge against Canelo after his draw and controversial split decision defeat last September.
“Frankly, I was disappointed. It was just a good sparring match… At that level, it should not be this boring,” he said after the fight.
Froch surprise Jacobs scorecard
Carl Froch believed that the Miracle Man had done enough to earn a draw in Las Vegas.
Working as part of Sky Sports’ coverage, he scored the bout 114-114.
Many fans were left scratching their heads when he awarded Jacobs the last round.
David Coldwell and Adam Smith both thought Canelo won the fight.
