Piers Morgan: ‘Shame on you’ GMB host hits out at Marks & Spencer’s new LGBT sandwich

Piers Morgan, 54, slammed high street store Marks & Spencer once again today, following his on-screen rant about vegan Percy Pig sweets on Good Morning Britain last week. During a furious outburst on Twitter, the star turned his attention to a new sandwich flavour produced by the retailer, aimed at the LGBT community. Sharing a photo of the lettuce, bacon, guacamole, and tomato filled snack in view of his 6.63 million followers, the presenter wrote: “Gay sandwiches? “Is there no cynical virtue-signalling depth struggling companies won’t now plunge to make a profit? Shame on you ⁦@marksandspencer⁩, this is truly pathetic.”

He continued: “Jeez, it’s not even 9am on a bank holiday weekend Saturday morning & I’m already enraged.

“Why is the world going so completely PC bonkers? #GaySandwiches #UnhappyBurgers #CelebrityVictims.”

A spokesperson from Marks & Spencer was quick to respond to Piers’ comments, explaining the sandwich was created to celebrate Pride and that the proceeds would be going to charitable causes.

They replied: “Hi Piers. We have given our popular BLT sandwich a twist to celebrate Pride and raise £10,000 for akt the national LGBTQ+ Youth Homelessness charity.

Incensed by Marks & Spencer’s statement, the outspoken Good Morning Britain star hit back: “Will there be a white male straight sandwich option, or would that be deemed offensive?”

In a separate reply, he added to the retailer: “What about gay vegans? Disgraceful that you’ve marginalised them in this way.”

LGBTQ magazine Attitude called Piers’ remarks into question, as they weighed in on the debate by tweeting the star: “Hello Piers. We wonder how many teenage kids you’ve met who have been kicked out by their parents for being gay?

“We’ve met loads. And so has the @aktcharity that benefits from this. Sometimes your cynicism has no place. Sometimes something is fun. Sometimes people do good.”

Piers then took the opportunity to praise the work of the charity that would benefit from sales of the sandwich, but continued to question M&S’ methods of raising money, replying: “So let’s help the charity (which sounds excellent) not let struggling firms sexualise sandwiches in such a cynical, virtue-signalling manner.”

Elsewhere, Piers spoke out about Marks & Spencer’s decision to universally adapt their popular sugary treats, Percy Pigs, to suit vegan customers by banning gelatine from the recipe.

The TV personality discussed the issue with co-host Susanna Reid, 48, on Good Morning Britain, when he angrily exclaimed: “It’s a pig, it’s called Percy the Pig!”

Susanna attempted to reason with him as she replied: “Oh Piers, don’t be obtuse. They are shaped like pigs.”

However, the star refused to back down as he continued: “Get your own damn sweets! Seriously, vegans, vegetarians, go and get your own sweets.

“Seriously, go and get sweets that aren’t called Percy Pig. Go and get ones called ‘Kale Nicies’ which taste disgusting but you can all feel happy because they’re made of kale. Leave our pig sweets alone you people.”(sic)

In spite of his outrage about the removal of the ingredient, which is taken from animal body parts, Piers revealed he had actually never indulged in the M&S treat himself.

He made the admission when Susanna asked: “Have you ever eaten a Percy Pig?”

Piers responded: “No, but I’m about to eat them all the time, the old fashioned gelatine ones. You think they are pigs made of no meat? Utterly ridiculous.”
