Canelo vs Jacobs LIVE: Updates from middleweight boxing showdown in Las Vegas

04.45am: We’ve just had the anthems and both fighters are preparing to make their way to the ring.

Jacobs walks first to Jay Z and looks determined, flanked by his team with the IBF title lifted above him. Surprisingly, his music cut out half way through, leaving him walking to the ring in silence.

Now, Canelo is making his way to the ring and there’s no guesses as to who the fan favourite is. Chants of “Canelo! Canelo! Canelo! are ringing throughout the T-Mobile Arena.

04.30am: Demetrius Andrade, the holder of the WBO world middleweight title, has confirmed his next fight will be on June 29.

Andrade holds the final piece in the middleweight jigsaw, and will presumably be holding out for a fight against the winner of Canelo and Jacobs.

While he waits, however, he will take on Maciej Sulecki in Rhode Island.

04.20am: Jacobs had a final message for Alvarez, and warned that he isn’t going to give up his IBF world title.

“This is the pinnacle, obviously,” he told Sky Sports.

“It doesn’t get any bigger than this stage, fighting Canelo Alvarez, one of the best middleweights in the world.

“After all that I’ve gone through in life, it shows that I’m dedicated, that I will never, ever give up, and that anything is possible.

“I have – not only the gut and determination – the skill, so we’re going to put everything together against Canelo Alvarez and cause a big upset.”

04.05am: Vergil Ortiz Jr becomes the first man to stop Mauricio Herrera after a devastating knockout win in the co-main event.

The 21-year-old has now stopped every one of his 13 opponents in his relatively short career, and will be looking to push for a world title shot soon.

The early finish means we could be looking at a 4.30am start time for Canelo vs Jacobs.

04.00am: Vergil Ortiz Jr and Mauricio Herrera are entering the ring now in the penultimate fight of the night.

The bout is scheduled for 10 rounds, so it could be 5am UK time before Canelo and Jacobs take to the ring.

Both main event fighters are in their dressing rooms going through last-minute preparations.

3.45am: Earlier on the undercard, British fighter John Ryder took a step closer to a world title shot by beating Bilal Akkawy.

Ryder knocked down the late replacement twice in the opening three rounds before delivering an impressive stoppage win.

Ryder is now mandatory for a shot at Liverpudlian Callum Smith, and declared to Sky Sports that he feels he is worthy of a challenge at world honours.

“I want to fight for a world title. I feel like I’ve served my apprenticeship,” he said. “I’ve taken the highs with the lows and I want the biggest fights I can be in.”

More on Ryder’s win here:

3.15am: Former two-weight world champion Paulie Malignaggi believes we could get a Canelo vs Golovkin trilogy fight if he beats Daniel Jacobs tonight.

“A third rematch could potentially happen of course,” Malignaggi exclusively told Express Sport.

“But one thing we don’t want to do is overlook Jacobs.

“I think that’s a great fight and it will be a great spectacle to watch.

“Stylistically he [Jacobs] could cause him problems.

“If it’s the Jacobs we saw in the Golovkin fight, that would make things really interesting.”

3am: Good evening, good morning and welcome to our live coverage of Canelo Alvarez vs Daniel Jacobs in a mouth-watering boxing clash.

Three middleweight titles are on the line and Express Sport will bring you every key moment in the fight throughout.

Ring walks are expected to take place from about 4.30am UK time but of course that is subject to change.
