Gregg Wallace: ‘They burst’ Masterchef host, 54, reveals ‘painful’ health condition

Gregg Wallace, 54, recently opened up about the condition, as he revealed he “doubled up in pain” after getting ill from the inflammatory disease. The Masterchef star admitted he refers to himself as the “fat, bald bloke who likes pudding” in a candid interview with the Mirror but admitted he sometimes “forgets” to avoid certain foods which aggravate the condition. Diverticula are small bulges or pockets that can develop in the lining of the intestine which leads to abdominal pain, tenderness and fever, according to the NHS website. Diverticula can develop further if sufferers don’t get enough fibre in their diet. The BBC star, told the publication: “At that point they can burst your intestine. I was almost doubled up in pain.”

“When they’re irritated, you’ve got to watch alcohol and spicy food. We were eating chilis yesterday. Before that I had a massive skinful of beer in Dublin –and it was already playing up.”

Speaking alongside his co-star John Torode, 53, during filming of MasterChef: The Professionals, Greg revealed he recently got ill from the condition.

He explained: “I forgot, because I’d been so well. But yesterday I was ill. I’m turning into one of those old people who has things wrong with them.”

His health reveal comes six ears after he lost three stone after being told his cholesterol level was too high.

In 2013, he said: “A doctor checked my cholesterol. At 13.5, it was sky high.

“He told me to do something or I was looking at a massive heart attack.”

Meanwhile, the TV personality will soon be celebrating as he and his wife Anne-Marie, 33, are expecting their first child together.

The couple recently spoke about their attempts to get pregnant and were delighted it happened naturally.

Speaking to OK! magazine, the pair said the doctor said it was “a miracle” when Anne got pregnant.

They told the publication: “We were due to start IVF but then it happened naturally after two years of trying.”

“The doctor told us it was a miracle Anna was pregnant.”

The Strictly Come Dancing star also revealed they would only be having one child together, because Greg was “too old”.

The Masterchef star said: “Seeing a scan of our baby son and the strength of his heartbeat made me cry.

“We’ve agreed to only have one child together – I’m too old.”

Gregg already has two children from his second marriage – Tom, 24, and Libby, 21.

MasterChef: The Professionals will air on BBC Two later this year.
