Avengers Endgame stars were told THAT devastating scene was a WEDDING

WARNING: Major spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame.

Towards the end of the Marvel film, we see a heartbreaking funeral – the funeral of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr), who gave his life on the battlefield.

It’s a huge scene with very little dialogue, but it takes in a vast, vast number of Marvel favourites – including the headline stars from Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel and even young Harley from Iron Man 3.

Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes, has revealed that the actors weren’t initially told that they were filming a funeral.

Asked by Jimmy Fallon if he was given much detail prior to filming his scenes, Stan said: “We did not [know much] for this one.

“Everything I filmed I found out on the day. You can kind of tell my my expression.

“I hide the confusion well under a Zoolander look.”

He added: “I was told there was a wedding. There was a wedding we were filming.

“I was like, ‘who’s getting married?’

“And I was looking around everyone was very formal.”

Perhaps beginning to talk in veiled terms so as not to spoil for the audience, he added: “But there’s two people weren’t there – so I guess that was the bride and groom.”

He joked: “But that’s what it was right? It was a wedding? You saw the movie, it was a wedding!”

Fallon uncomfortably agreed, laughing, so as not to give away the sad finale for the audience.

Stan’s Bucky Barnes was one of the characters who died at the end of Infinity War but was brought back thanks to Time Travel and the use of the Infinity Stones.

Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) was the other massive fatality, though she – somewhat divisively – did not get a big funeral.

Avengers: Endgame is out now.
