NASA SHOCK: How blackhole DRAGGED spacetime, scientists on brink of time travel discovery?

Black holes are the universe’s most peculiar phenomena. These strange entities exhibit gravitational acceleration so strong that nothing – not even light – can escape. But NASA scientists now believe a black hole dubbed V404 Cygni has taken astronomical strangeness to a new level.

Most black holes are believed to spew jets of plasma from its poles.

However black hole V404 Cygni was found 8,000 light-years from Earth wildly blasting plasma jets while its gravitational pull dragged the fabric of spacetime itself.

Spacetime fuses the three dimensions of space and the one dimension of time into a single four-dimensional continuum.

The counterintuitive concept is a way to understand the relativistic effects such as why different observers perceive where and when events occur differently.

Professor Greg Sivakoff, a University of Alberta researcher, said: “We were gobsmacked by what we saw in this system — it was completely unexpected.

“Finding this astronomical first has deepened our understanding of how black holes and galaxy formation can work.

“It tells us a little more about that big question: ‘How did we get here?’”

Detailed analysis of V404 Cygni’s bizarre behaviour was only made possible with data captured by the Very Long Baseline Array interferometer.

Professor James Miller-Jones, of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, said: “Like many black holes, it is feeding on a nearby star, pulling gas away from the star and forming a disk of material that encircles the black hole and spirals towards it under gravity.

“What is different in V404 Cygni is that we think the disk of material and the black hole are misaligned.

“This appears to be causing the inner part of the disk to wobble like a spinning top and fire jets out in different directions as it changes orientation.”

The shock discovery has led some observers to question whether the black hole presents an opportunity for time travel.

Albert Einstein’s landmark Theory of Special Relativity states that a surprising thing happens when you travel through spacetime, especially when your speed relative to other objects is close to the speed of light.

Time goes slower for you than for the people you left behind.

And you will not notice this effect until you return to those stationary people.

Time travel of a sort also occurs for objects in gravitational fields. Einstein’s General Relativity theory predicts time passing more slowly for objects in gravitational fields – like here on Earth – than for objects far from such fields.

So there are all kinds of space and time distortions near black holes, where the gravity can be very intense.
