While the initial reactions to the first teaser seem optimistic about the tone of the movie, and of Jim Carrey’s involvement, the protagonist himself has been slated.
Ben Schwartz provides the voice of Sonic, while James Marsden and Tika Sumpter are also in the human cast alongside Carrey – who plays Dr Robotnik.
Watch the trailer above ahead of the film’s release in November.
Amidst a sea of memes on Twitter, one person wrote: “Literally the ONLY thing wrong in this is Sonic himself.”
However, a number of movie fans have slammed the Sonic movie.
One tweeted: “I just lost all faith for this film… Sonic’s face looks so bad… Christian [movie] budget, animation bad.”
While another alluding to the video game movie curse said: “Many Things end this year. Avengers, Game of Thrones, Star Wars… and the Sonic Franchise.”
A movie fan added: “It’s somehow worse than I can imagine.”
And one lamented: “This might be one of the worst trailers I’ve ever seen. Paramount Pictures you have ruined a great video game character.”
