Jermaine Jenas SLAMS Mauricio Pochettino over treatment of ONE Tottenham star

That is according to BT Sport pundit and former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas.

Alli is currently enjoying his worst season in front of goal since joining Spurs from MK Dons in 2015.

The England international had scored just seven goals in all competitions before Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Ajax.

That is considerably fewer than the 14 and 22 goals respectively he managed to score in his previous two campaigns.

However, Jenas does not think Alli is to blame for his lesser impact on the Tottenham side.

He reckons Mauricio Pochettino has often played the 23-year-old far too deep.

And Jenas was hoping for a change in approach against Ajax.

“Look, it [patchy form] is what you get with young players sometimes,” Jenas said.

“That guy has shot way beyond what any of us thought he was capable of coming from MK Dons.

“Now, he’s had some issues this season, don’t get me wrong.

“But I think a lot of those issues have been put upon him.

“He’s been asked to play in a position that I don’t think suits him.

“He’s not a centre-midfielder as far as I’m concerned.

“In think he can play there, but he’s much better higher up the pitch, in-behind centre-forwards, having an impact in the box.

“So hopefully that’s where we will see more of him tonight.”
