Avengers Endgame: What does Captain America ending mean for THIS character's history?

Avengers: Endgame has delighted and devastated fans the world over. Ten years of storytelling culminated in an epic three-hour opus which has already decimated box office records. With an end for many of fans’ favourite characters on the horizon, the film had a bittersweet end. Warning: spoilers ahead.

Did Captain America and Peggy have kids?

If you give in to the time travel theory as explained by Hulk at the beginning of Endgame, they could have.

In previous Marvel movies, it was established that Peggy had two children.

Captain America’s time travelling escapade introduced at the end of Endgame meant he got to live a long life with his true love, Peggy.

If when Captain America went back to the 1950s he sparked a new timeline, then in the present 2023 of Endgame he was not the father of Peggy’s kids.

AVENGERS ENDGAME: FANS ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THIS CHARACTER’S SCREENTIME

But if, as could be the case, Captain America was always destined to go back in time to be with Peggy he very well could be the father of Peggy’s children in Endgame’s present day.

Fans have pointed out that this theory majorly disrupts Peggy’s storyline in her own TV show, Agent Carter.

Marvel Cinematic Universe and Marvel TV Universe are distinct entities, however.

During Captain America: Winter Soldier, Steve visits the Smithsonian Institution and sees a video of Peggy from 1953.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME: HOW CAN THIS CHARACTER BE ALIVE AFTER PLOT TWIST

She explains how Captain America saved a group of men which also included the man who became her husband.

Canonically, Peggy’s husband had always been a shadowy figure at best, hidden in the background with little details known to Peggy’s friends and coworkers.

By the end of Winter Soldier, Captain America visits an elderly Peggy who is suffering from Alzheimer’s.

Peggy is revealed to have had two kids, who are visible in a photo on her bedside table, though there is no picture of her husband.

AVENGERS ENDGAME: MARVEL GIVES FEMALE FANS MAJOR NOD – IS IT ENOUGH?

In Endgame, Cap and Iron Man travel to 1970s Camp Leigh, where Peggy is working as part of SHIELD.

Peggy, who would be in her 40s or 50s, has a photo of a young Steve on her desk.

The photo bolsters the theory, after all, if Peggy was married man, why would she keep another man’s photo on her desk?

Of course, there are plenty of fans who ascribe to the theory that all of this happened in an alternate timeline.

We have no idea if Captain America and Peggy actually had kids, but the theories for both are strong.

Avengers: Endgame is now playing in cinemas.
