David Warner's unique tactic to stop R Ashwin Mankading him in IPL PICTURED

Kings XI Punjab captain Ashwin caused huge controversy early in this year’s Indian Premier League.

The Indian off-spinner Mankaded England wicket-keeper Jos Buttler, who was batting for the Rajasthan Royals.

So Warner made sure he was not a victim when he came up against Ashwin on Monday.

The Australian opened the batting for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a vital match for his side.

When Ashwin came on to bowl, and when off strike, Warner stood deep into the crease at the non-striker’s end to make sure he did not suffer like Buttler did.

IPL fans picked up on the tactic on social media.

“Two Mankad/premeditation counter-measures from Ashwin later, Warner’s now standing behind the bowling crease,” one supporter Tweeted.

Ashwin’s Mankad of Buttler came back on March 25.

Buttler fumed at the act, claiming it was against the spirit of the game.

“At the time I was really disappointed with it. I didn’t like the style of it,” he said.

“What was more disappointing is that suddenly over the next two games I found myself being really conscious of it and it is quite distracting.

“That is why it was nice to get some runs in the win and get back to thinking about batting and not worrying about how I back up at the non-striker’s end.

“I think if you look at the footage, probably the wrong decision was made because at the time he was expected to release the ball I was in my crease.

“I didn’t like what happened and I didn’t agree with it, but what can you do?

“I must be the only person to get out twice in that way as well! I’ll make sure it never happens again.”
