Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 prices plummet as Samsung releases 'critical' phone update

The Galaxy S10 might be the phone everyone is talking about but Samsung fans might be wise to take a look at some of the firm’s older smartphones.

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 are both very good devices which offer stunning screens, good cameras and silky smooth speeds.

When these phones launched last year they had a premium price tag of over £700 but with newer devices now superseding them things have taken a tumble.

Retailers, including Samsung’s own store, have cut prices with the Note 9 (with Hybrid SIM) currently available for £649 and the S9 is on sale for £499.

Those prices are already good but there’s a way to cut the cost even further.

Samsung continues to offer its trade-in scheme which allows customers to hand over their old handsets and get even more money off a new device.

For example, when buying the Note 9 you can hand over an S9+ and get £350 off the price reducing the total bill to under £300.

There’s even the option for Apple fans to upgrade to a Note 9 at a cheaper price with Samsung offering £200 off if you hand over an iPhone 7 or £300 if you have an iPhone 8.

These deals arrive as owners of some of Samsung’s flagships, including the S9 and Note 9, are being urged to check for the latest update from Samsung.

This vital upgrade was announced earlier this month and brings some important security patches to the firm’s flagship devices.

Confirming the update Samsung said: “Samsung Mobile is releasing a maintenance release for major flagship models as part of monthly Security Maintenance Release (SMR) process. This SMR package includes patches from Google and Samsung.”

And in a post on its security website, the tech firm added: “At Samsung, we take security and privacy issues very seriously and we are doing our best to respond as quickly as possible.

“Securing your device and maintaining the trust you place in us is our top priority.

“Samsung releases monthly and quarterly security updates on selected Samsung devices.
