Why is MS Dhoni not playing for CSK in today’s IPL match? The reasons explained

Dhoni is suffering from a fever and is therefore sidelined for the IPL match in Chennai.

Suresh Raina will captain the side in place of his team-mate.

It is the second match of the tournament Dhoni has missed.

The Chennai Super Kings captain opted to sit out of the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad due to a back spasm last week.

Dhoni has been in fine form for CSK, scoring three half centuries in seven innings.

He almost led his side to a remarkable victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday.

The 37-year-old scored an unbeaten 84 but was not able to hit the two runs needed for victory off the last ball.

On his back problem, Dhoni claimed earlier this week that it was under control.

“The back is holding up, it’s not getting worse, with the World Cup coming up, can’t afford that, because that’s too important,” he said.

“If it becomes worse, I certainly take some time off but at this level, you play with some niggle or the other.

“Because if you wait to get fully fit, then there will be a gap of five years between two matches.”
