For years, the process of force-closing, or quitting, an app on the iPhone ($1,000 at Amazon) was done by double-pressing the home button and then swiping apps off the screen. But with the launch of the iPhone X ($950 at Best Buy), and subsequent launch of the iPhone XS, XS Max ($1,100 at Amazon) and XR, all of which are missing the iconic home button, navigating your iPhone now relies on gestures.
Closing an app on your iPhone is only necessary when the app becomes unresponsive, according to Apple. Still, people love closing out recently used apps, if for nothing else than to keep a tidy multitasking view.

To close an app on a modern iPhone, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open multitasking view. Then, swipe up on an app’s preview to close it. If you have a lot of apps open, you can swipe up on multiple app previews at the same time.
Easy enough, right?
