Michael Steele says Trump will be worried after Mr Biden announced his plans to run for President in the 2020 election this week. According to Newsweek, the ex-chair argues that Trump’s “ugly tweets” after the announcement “belies the fact he’s concerned”. He added: “Joe, in my estimation of the candidates at the table at the moment, is the best prepared to actually go after Trump in a mature, sophisticated way without having to get in the gutter.
“The President responded to that immediately, and that should tell you everything that’s ahead for this president in terms of having to deal with a Joe Biden versus many of the others in the campaign.”
Mr Biden, 76, worked with Mr Obama for eight years, becoming an influential figure during his time in the White House.
He is one of nearly 20 other potential candidates who have announced they want to represent the party and attempt to defeat Trump.
On his website, Mr Biden said it was “time for respected leadership on the world stage – and dignified leadership at home”.

The website added: “It’s time for equal opportunity, equal rights, and equal justice.
“It’s time for an economy that rewards those who actually do the work. It’s time for a president who will stand up for all of us.”
Trump responded to the announcement on Twitter, warning the campaign would be “nasty” for Mr Biden.
He said: “Welcome to the race, Sleepy Joe. I only hope you have the intelligence, long in doubt, to wage a successful primary campaign.
“It will be nasty – you will be dealing with people who truly have some very sick & demented ideas. But if you make it, I will see you at the Starting Gate!”
Mr Biden is one of the favourites to become the Democrat nominee for president and take on Trump in next year’s election.
Critics say his standing in polls is largely a function of name recognition for the former U.S. senator from Delaware, whose more than four decades in public service includes eight years as President Barack Obama’s No. 2 in the White House.
In a speech to union members in April, Biden called Trump a “tragedy in two acts.”
