Kevin Durant: Knicks, Lakers and Clippers told of biggest factor in signing free agent

The 2019 free agency market could be set to change the entire landscape of the NBA.

The Golden State Warriors have both Durant and Klay Thompson set to enter free agency.

Thompson has repeatedly stated his desire to stay in Golden State, but Durant has been less clear on what he plans to do.

Multiple reports have suggested he will opt out of the final year of his contract and leave the Warriors.

The New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and LA Clippers have been heavily linked with signing the two-time NBA Finals MVP.

Durant has been getting a front row seat to exactly what the Clippers can do in this year’s playoffs after they forced a Game 6 with a sensational win at the Oracle last time out.

Ultimately, the Warriors star will likely hold multiple meetings with teams he is interested in signing with.

And Sports Illustrated’s Mannix believes the Clippers have the best to offer if they get Durant in a room.

“Kevin Durant, as we’ve seen in years past, is influenced by these meetings,” he said on Speak For Yourself.

“He goes into these meetings, whether it’s those guys did in the Hamptons or Boston bringing Tom Brady.

“He can be influenced by what happens in the room.

“And the Clippers are going to walk into the room with Doc Rivers, with a deep front office staff and with Steve Ballmer who seems to be one of the more likeable owners in the NBA.

“The Knicks, who I think are the top competition for Kevin Durant, who are they going to walk into the room with?

“And how are they going to sell Kevin Durant on his future?

“Other than saying, ‘you can bring whoever you want with you. You can take Kyrie Irving or X free agent and bring him along with you’.

“I think that’s a factor not enough people are talking about.”
